The USD plummeted against some Asian currencies and shattered below 7.2 against the CNH at one point yesterday (5th). The HKMA intervened to pour in capital. In terms of Hong Kong stocks, the HSI opened higher by 71 points, or 0.3%, at 22,576; the HSCEI opened lower by 8 points, or 0.1%, at 8,222; and the HSTECH opened lower by 1 point at 5,243.

In terms of financials, HKEX (00388.HK)  +6.800 (+1.893%)    Short selling $423.78M; Ratio 10.581%   opened 1.9% higher at HK$358. CICC cited AIA that the previously announced new repurchase plan of US$1.6 billion was implemented on April 14, 2025, and the company expected it to be completed within 3 months, which was earlier than the annual report performance conference. This reflected the management's expectation that the stock price will elevate in the future. It was expected that this results performance and the above situation will provide strong support for the stock price.

HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  +0.400 (+0.459%)    Short selling $210.63M; Ratio 16.646%   opened 1% higher at HK$87.1, and AIA (01299.HK)  +1.600 (+2.667%)    Short selling $686.75M; Ratio 20.726%   opened 3.8% higher at HK$61.35. As oil prices drooped, PETROCHINA (00857.HK)  +0.100 (+1.692%)    Short selling $127.29M; Ratio 16.653%   and CNOOC (00883.HK)  +0.100 (+0.603%)    Short selling $89.00M; Ratio 4.016%   opened 1.2% and 1.7% lower respectively.

Ant Group purportedly plans to demerge its overseas subsidiary and list it in Hong Kong. BABA-W (09988.HK)  -1.800 (-1.454%)    Short selling $1.12B; Ratio 10.117%   opened 0.4% higher at HK$122.5. In terms of other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK)  -2.400 (-0.484%)    Short selling $740.97M; Ratio 7.586%   opened 0.8% higher at $491.6. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  +1.400 (+1.011%)    Short selling $2.44B; Ratio 20.409%   , BIDU-SW (09888.HK)  +0.650 (+0.740%)    Short selling $214.91M; Ratio 31.869%   and SMIC (00981.HK)  -0.150 (-0.319%)    Short selling $96.92M; Ratio 3.309%   opened 0.4%-0.5% higher.
