In an interview with Bloomberg Television, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the White House will start interviewing candidates to succeed Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell in the fall. Powell’s term is set to end in May 2026.

Bessent expressed no concern over U.S. President Donald Trump attempting to remove Powell or challenge the Fed’s independence. However, he noted there is room for more discussion regarding the Fed’s role as a bank regulator.
