Novo Nordisk Seeks China Regulatory Approval for Weight-Loss Pill Wegovy

Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar said the company plans to soon seek approval from Chinese regulators for its weight-loss pill Wegovy, aiming to catch up with Eli Lilly and Company (LLY.US) in the China market. Doustdar said oral Wegovy data will be submitted within the coming months to seek regulatory approval, and competition from generic drugmakers is expected to emerge from 2Q27. Although Novo Nordisk has regulatory data protection until early 2027, the patent for semaglutide, the active ingredient in its blockbuster drugs Wegovy and Ozempic, expired in China in March.
