TENCENT (00700.HK) invested USD20 million in the first round of financing of a new AI laboratory founded by Lin Junyang, Chinese media, citing sources, reported.

The AI lab has reportedly raised several hundred million US dollars to date, with a post-money valuation of approximately USD2 billion.

TENCENT has not responded officially.

Lin Junyang, born on March 19, 1993, previously served as the head of the Tongyi Qianwen large language model at BABA-W (09988.HK), public information showed. His research covers natural language processing and multimodal representation learning.

Lin announced in March this year that he had left Alibaba's Qianwen team. In May, reports said that he had established a new AI laboratory.
