US President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened on Friday (19th), with many oil-laden vessels set to begin sailing out of the strait. He added that the US does not need to be heavily involved to help keep the waterway open.

Prior to this, the US and Iran announced that they had reached an agreement to end the war in the Middle East. Iranian media reported that three oil tankers and two cargo ships have passed through waters previously blockaded by the US Navy.

The US, Iran and mediator Pakistan stated that the peace deal will be signed in Switzerland on Friday. However, a senior US administration official said that Trump, US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf already signed the document electronically.

Upon arriving in France for the G7 summit, Trump said the deal has been fully signed and the strait has been partially reopened. He believes many positive developments will take place in the Middle East, adding that most importantly oil prices will plunge and stock markets will surge like a rocket. He also said Iran will not possess nuclear weapons in the future.
