Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held a meeting last Saturday (21st) with Stephen Ubl, President and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), as well as executives from five multinational pharmaceutical companies including Novartis, AstraZeneca, and Roche Group. The discussions focused on the development and concerns of foreign pharmaceutical companies in China. Wang stated that the "15th Five-Year Plan" clearly propounds the implementation of a health-first development strategy, designating biopharmaceuticals as an emerging pillar industry, strengthening intellectual property protection, and improving policy transparency and regulatory efficiency.
