US President Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran last Saturday (21st) via the social platform Truth Social, requiring Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and threatening to target Iran’s energy infrastructure if it fails to do so, according to NBC. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated yesterday (22nd) that the Trump administration is leaving all options on the table when it comes to seeing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and added that sometimes escalation is necessary to de-escalate tensions.
