The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) revealed its plans to guide website platforms to fully regulate the labeling of short video content. This includes standardizing the tags used for short video content labeling and specifying the types of tags that must be set. The labeling of content will be made a mandatory step in the publication of short videos, guiding users to label the content of the short videos they publish. The administration pointed out that the standards and criteria for short video content labeling on current website platforms are inconsistent. Some short videos containing fictional interpretations, staged marketing, and AI-generated content are not properly labeled, severely misleading public perception, disrupting social order, and polluting the online ecosystem. The administration added that six key platforms, including Douyin, KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), TENCENT (00700.HK), Xiaohongshu, BILIBILI-W (09626.HK), and WB-SW (09898.HK), are actively fulfilling their responsibilities. Over the past month, they thoroughly cleaned up more than 37,000 non-compliant short videos involving fake staging and other issues, dealt with over 3,400 non-compliant accounts, supplemented labels for more than 600,000 short videos, and issued 18 governance announcements, exposing a large number of typical cases.
