TENCENT Opens 4.1% Lower; M Stanley: Initial AI Investments to Squeeze ST Margins

For the fourth quarter ending last December, TENCENT reported a net profit of RMB58.26 billion, up 13.5% YoY, aligning with the forecast range of RMB50.863-58.917 billion from eight brokers as compiled by this website, and closer to the upper end of the forecast. The EPS was RMB6.433. Under non-IFRS, TENCENT's adjusted net profit for the fourth quarter was RMB64.694 billion, up 17% YoY, meeting the forecast range of RMB61.16-67.945 billion from 12 brokers, with a median of RMB64.4 billion. The non-IFRS basic EPS was RMB7.144. Morgan Stanley stated that TENCENT is increasing investments in foundation models (HY3.0), new AI products (Yuanbao, WeChat, Enterprise WeChat/ Qclaw), and GPUs. These initial AI-related investments will squeeze margins in the short term but are expected to entail new opportunities in the long term.
