ByteDance's launch of the Seedance 2.0 video model represents a decisive moment for the global entertainment industry, marking the beginning of an era where AI-generated content (AIGC) will become widely popular across short videos, mini-dramas and future mid-to-long-form video platforms, CLSA released a research report saying.

The disruption will start from the content creation side, as the enhanced model democratises story visualization by one prompt. The dynamics of distribution channels may evolve rapidly, testing the ability of existing participants to integrate and monetize this new wave of eye-grabbing content.

The mini-drama industry and IP owners are expected to benefit in the near term due to their defensive nature. CHINA LIT (00772.HK) is expected to benefit from the demand for mid- to long-tail IPs, its own mini-drama operations and investments.

KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) released the Kling 3.0 model on 5 February, enhancing controllability, character consistency, realistic visuals and multilingual generation capabilities, making it a strong competitor among similar products, the broker noted.

Globally, the competition in generative video models remains intense, with more than 10 major companies vying for leadership, including Google, Vidu, xAI, OpenAI, BABA-W (09988.HK), ByteDance, KUAISHOU-W, PixVerse, Lightricks, Runway, MINIMAX-WP (00100.HK) and Luma Labs, etc..
