Canadian Industry Minister Actively Fostering JV Car Plant Setup with CN

In an interview with Bloomberg, Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly stated that Canada is actively promoting the establishment of joint venture (JV) automotive plants with China to produce electric vehicles (EVs) for global export.

Canadian auto parts companies already operating in China can collaborate with Chinese EV manufacturers to establish JV assembly plants in Canada, creating Sino-Canadian JV models for global export, she pointed out.

Canada can ensure the software used in these vehicles meets safety regulations, she added, emphasizing that Canada can simultaneously implement labor standards and establish a local supply chain.

She stated that Canada is actively engaging in dialogue regarding how Canadian companies can cooperate with Chinese automotive investment, including a collaboration with QNX, a software developer owned by BlackBerry.

During her earlier visit to China, she met with BYD COMPANY (01211.HK), the world's largest EV manufacturer, and CHERY AUTO (09973.HK).
