Death Toll in Fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po Rises to 55; Fires in 4 Buildings Largely Extinguished

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department (HKFSD) released the latest update on the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po. Among the eight buildings in the estate, one remains unaffected by the blaze.

Currently, fire of four buildings has been largely extinguished, while the fire in the remaining three buildings is under effective control. Since the fire broke out, the HKFSD has deployed a total of 304 fire and rescue vehicles and over 1,250 firefighters.

During the period, 341 assistance requests were received, with 279 successfully handled. Among the four buildings where fires have been largely extinguished, there are no unresolved assistance cases remaining.

Fifty-one people died at the scene of the fire, while 72 injured individuals were transported to hospitals. Four of those hospitalized later succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to 55. Currently, eight firefighters have been injured, with one died in the line of duty.

The HKFSD deployed various specialized units and teams for operational deployment. They are currently utilizing 11 fire hoses, and have dispatched 26 search and rescue teams.
