CN Regulates Online Distribution of Bad Quality Animated Mini Dramas & Short Films, Includes AIGC Category in Classification & Layered Review System for 1st Time

The National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) has issued a special governance work notice launching a special rectification campaign across China against the online dissemination of substandard animated mini dramas and animated short videos from now until March 2026, according to Chinese media.

The governance will, for the first time, include AIGC (AI generated content), comics, stickers and other animated mini dramas in the classification and layered review system.

It will focus on cleaning up content that involves unscrupulous parody, vulgar marginally relevant content, retaliatory violence, extreme revenge and distorted views on marriage and relationships, strictly prohibiting the use of images and voices of people with bad reputation in production materials and bans the distribution of animated adaptations of removed live-action mini dramas and parody re-creations of well-known children's animated characters.
