BYD Intends to Sell Low-Cost Micro EVs in Japan

Atsuki Tofukuji, President of BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)(002594.SZ) in Japan, stated that BYD plans to unroll a low-cost battery-powered micro car in Japan next year, reported the Financial Times.

The micro car, known as "kei car", is one of BYD's first models designed for overseas markets and not yet sold in the domestic market. It may capture market share in Japan's micro car market, which is valued at approximately USD18 billion.

Details such as the range and price of the model have not been disclosed, but the price is expected to be lower than the JPY2.9 million "Dolphin EV", report added.
