When attending an event last Saturday (27th), Financial Secretary Paul Chan said that no consideration has been given to the introduction of sales tax, goods and service tax and duties on betting on basketball games at present.

As Hong Kong's economy is recovering, he hoped to attract tourists and focus on promoting economic development, Chan explained. However, the authorities has no intention to legalize betting on basketball games to discourage citizens to gamble.

Chan estimated that Hong Kong's economy would grow by 2.5-3.5% in 1Q24, and remained "cautiously optimistic" about Hong Kong's economic situation.
