The market foresaw US President Donald Trump's fiscal policies to face greater constraints, driving US Treasury yields lower. The DJIA surged as much as 1,705 points overnight (4th), while the Nasdaq once escalated 2.67%. Cheered by positive external sentiment, Hong Kong bourse opened with an upside gap of nearly 400 points this morning (5th). Steered by heavyweight techs, the broader market once skyrocketed more than 900 points, with the HSI hitting an intraday high of 24,871. The HSI closed at 24,796, up 877 points or 3.67%, while full-day turnover surged to HKD356.667 billion. The HSCEI closed at 8,369, up 311 points or 3.87%, while the HSTECH closed at 4,154, up 218 points or 5.55%. The Democratic Party's landslide victory in the US midterm elections sparked a major sector rotation from AI concept stocks into value and consumer shares, bringing renewed favor toward Chinese tech giants. ATM stocks with extensive consumer businesses and relatively low valuations were heavily sought after. BABA-W (09988.HK) closed up 8.45% at HKD109.1; TENCENT (00700.HK) shot up 7.17%; MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) rallied 6.78%; NTES (09999.HK) rebounded 9.07%; XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) elevated 8.83%; while JD-SW (09618.HK), BIDU-W (09888.HK) and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) mounted between 5% and nearly 7%. Concerns that AI regulation may tighten after Democrats took control of Congress weighed on AI hardware stocks. KB LAMINATES (01888.HK) plunged 12.43%; KINGBOARD HLDG (00148.HK) tumbled 6.96%; YOFC (06869.HK) slumped 12.48%; ZJ INNOLIGHT (03308.HK) shed 6.45%; and CIG (06166.HK) declined 6.36%. Spot gold once broke above USD4,100 per ounce today. Citi expected a three-month TP of USD4,500 under its base case.
