2026-11-05 16:22:55 Vote counting for the US midterm elections is still underway in some regions, with the Democratic Party having secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, Morgan Stanley said in a research report. Democratic candidates also won gubernatorial elections in Ohio, Texas, Georgia and Iowa, which may affect AI sentiment in light of potential changes in data center approval policies. In the broker's view, external factors such as the US elections and the Middle East situation have prompted some South Korean investors to stay on the sidelines. As these external events fade, South Korea's KOSPI may reach a turning point in November, though the key factor remains AI sentiment. US stocks rebounded yesterday, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq rising 1.7%. AI application-related stocks broadly boomed, while AI-enablement stocks subsided. The KOSPI was weak in early trading yesterday (Nov 4) before recovering in the afternoon, closing at 5,683.8 points, up 0.62%, the report wrote. Historically, US stocks have generally performed positively in the 6-12 months following US midterm elections. Over the past more than 20 years, except for one occasion, the KOSPI also recorded positive returns about 6-12 months after US midterm elections. The market had already partially priced in the election results yesterday, and sector performance divergence is expected, with sentiment toward financials, non-AI capital expenditure plays and quality consumer stocks likely to be more positive. ~ AASTOCKS Financial News Website: www.aastocks.com | |
