2026-09-02 12:38:23 This morning (2nd), the HSI opened down 48 pts before losses deepened. At one point, it slid as much as 321 pts and barely held above the 25,000 level. The index closed the half-day at 25,087, down 242 pts or 0.96%, with half-day turnover at HKD119.556 billion. The HSCEI closed at 8,368, down 94 pts or 1.11%. The HSTECH closed at 4,480, down 70 pts or 1.54%. Among heavyweight techs, MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) reversed earlier losses after opening lower and added 0.65%; XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) gained 1.09% ahead of its autumn flagship product launch event next Monday. TENCENT (00700.HK) and BABA-W (09988.HK) lost more than 1%, while BIDU-W (09888.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) and NTES (09999.HK) dived more than 2%. Amidst geopolitical conflicts and rising expectations of interest rate hikes, spot gold once slipped below USD4,300 this morning, weighing on gold miners and other metal stocks. ZIJIN GOLD INTL (02259.HK) tumbled 4.03%; ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK), LINGBAO GOLD (03330.HK) and SD GOLD (01787.HK) plunged more than 3%; LAOPU GOLD (06181.HK) declined 2.68%; CHOW TAI FOOK (01929.HK) cratered 3.68%; JIANGXI COPPER (00358.HK) shed 3.44%; CMOC (03993.HK) fell off 4.33%; and CHALCO (02600.HK) shrank 3.12%. NEV makers successively announced August sales data. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK) stumbled 4.67%, making it the worst-performing blue chip in the half-day session. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK) lost 4.15%; BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) slid 3.74%; XPENG-W (09868.HK) plummeted 3.38%; and NIO-SW (09866.HK) plunged more than 5% by midday after Citi lowered its TP following results. Z.AI (02513.HK) saw brokers raise TP after results, but its share price remained under pressure, closing the half-day down 5.6%.
