2026-09-01 16:45:59 The HSI opened lower this morning (1st) and once nosedived 326 pts to a trough of 25,240, finding support near the 100MA. The index concluded at 25,329, down 237 pts or 0.93%, with market turnover at HKD238.735 billion. The HSTECH closed at 4,550, down 68 pts or 1.49%. The HSCEI ended at 8,462, down 50 pts or 0.59%. Leading techs were suppressed. BABA-W (09988.HK) ended down 3.33%; JD-SW (09618.HK) stumbled 3.21%; MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BIDU-W (09888.HK) and TENCENT (00700.HK) sagged more than 2%. KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) spiked 3.16% after its Beijing Keling received RMB1.4 billion investment from the National Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund. Macau's August GGR sank 1% YoY, missing market expectations and weighing on casinos. GALAXY ENT (00027.HK) slid 3.16%, while SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK), MGM CHINA (02282.HK), WYNN MACAU (01128.HK), SJM HOLDINGS (00880.HK) and MELCO INT'L DEV (00200.HK) lost 1-2%. Chinese banks continued to attract capital inflows. BOCI upgraded CCB (00939.HK), ICBC (01398.HK) and ABC (01288.HK), which rose 1.05%, 1.52% and 2.6% respectively. BANK OF CHINA (03988.HK) hit another record high today, reaching as high as HKD5.98, and closed up 1.27% at HKD5.975. Chinese property stocks remained under pressure today. CMBI said the higher pre-sale thresholds for new homes in Mainland China would bring short-term pain for long-term health. LONGFOR GROUP (00960.HK) fell off 3.8%, making it the worst-performing blue chip of the day.
