Peace talks between the US and Iran failed to achieve any major breakthrough over the past weekend, with both sides still negotiating revisions to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Israel launched its largest attack on Lebanon in 25 years, while Iran's main regional ally Hezbollah intensified its attacks on northern Israel.

Since the US government said last Friday (May 29) that it expected to announce an agreement, US President Donald Trump has not made further remarks on Iran.

He stated that the agreement would include Iran suspending its nuclear program and fully restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's semi-official media reported on Sunday (May 31) that both sides continued to propose amendments, but noted that a breakdown in negotiations could not be ruled out.
