Bloomberg data showed that Taiwans stock market capitalization rose to USD4.95 trillion yesterday (25th), overtaking India to become the worlds fifth-largest equity market, ranking behind only the United States, Mainland China, Japan and Hong Kong.The Taiwan Weighted Index once broke above 44,000 points this morning (26th), hitting an all-time high of 44,097 points, and is now down 0.13% at 43,586 points.Taiwans stock market has repeatedly set new highs this year, benefiting from the strong performance of TSMC, which accounts for 42% of the Taiwan Weighted Index. TSMC has surged about 48% year to date. Taiwan authorities also raised the cap on domestic funds investment in a single stock last month. JPM expects that under the new rules, Taiwan could attract more than USD6 billion in capital inflows. (mn/da)
