According to Sina Finance, photovoltaic leader JINKO SOLAR (688223.SH) +0.390 (+6.181%) (JinkoSolar Holding Company Limited (JKS.US) ) filed a request in China to invalidate a patent held by Tetrasun, a subsidiary of First Solar, Inc. (FSLR.US) , the largest photovoltaic manufacturer in the Western Hemisphere. Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration ruled that the invention patent No. 201080027881.6 titled "High-Efficiency Solar Cell Structure and Manufacturing Method" is entirely invalid, on the grounds that it does not meet the novelty and inventiveness requirements stipulated under patent law.Analysis indicated that the scope of the invalidated patent covers one of First Solar, Inc.'s core solar cell patents and 17 of its claims, exerting significant pressure on First Solar, Inc.
