S&P Global announced that, after seasonal adjustment, Japan's May S&P Manufacturing PMI flash fell to 54.5 from the previous 55.1, while the Services PMI flash declined to 50 from the previous 51. Japan's May S&P Composite PMI flash dropped to 51.1 from 52.2 previously.During the period, total output of Japanese private enterprises expanded for the 14th consecutive month, but the pace of growth was the weakest so far this year and only marginal. Growth in total new business was the slowest in five months, with a modest increase. Private enterprises continued to add staff, but the pace of job creation slowed to a seven-month low, with moderate growth. Overall business confidence rose to a three-month high. However, market expectations remained subdued, and the impact of the Middle East conflict on supply chains and inflation remained a widespread and ongoing concern among companies. (da/u)
