Mable Chan, the Secretary for Transport and Logistics, said aviation fuel prices represent as much as 30% of airlines' operating costs, casting an immense impact on operational sustainability.

Although international oil prices have recently shown slight signs of easing, aviation fuel requires refining and is contingent on supply conditions in the Middle East. As supply remains tight, aviation fuel prices may not necessarily align with international oil prices.

She stressed that the government will continue to communicate with airlines and has requested them to conduct frequent reviews and lower fuel surcharges in response to changes in international oil prices.

The government will continue to keep a close tab on the situation and hopes airlines will provide greater transparency.
