Huatai Securities said in a research report that STANCHART (02888.HK) -1.400 (-0.702%) Short selling $6.21M; Ratio 6.905% achieved strong earnings growth driven by robust wealth management. On an adjusted basis, 1Q26 operating income, profit before tax and profit before provisions increased 9.72%, 16.5% and 18.39% YoY respectively, with outstanding profitability. Key highlights include rising global banking business supporting credit demand; NIM pressure easing compared with 2025; wealth solutions business hitting a new quarterly high, with strong performance in investment products and bancassurance; improved asset quality and effective management of geopolitical risks in the Middle East.The broker noted that due to adjustments in the companys financial disclosure basis, it forecasts net profit attributable to shareholders of USD5.231 billion, USD5.949 billion and USD6.649 billion for 2026 to 2028 respectively. In addition, as the company is expected to benefit from the restructuring of global industrial chains, it assigns a target price-to-book ratio of 1.25x for 2026. The TP is raised from HKD229.94 to HKD242.24, with an Overweight rating maintained.
