During the China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference 2025 (CPCIC2025) organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA), Sinopec and BASF announced that both parties agreed to maintain consistency in the core requirements of carbon footprint accounting methods, achieving a methodological framework mutual recognition, according to Chinese media.

In 2023, Sinopec achieved the first automated accounting of carbon footprints for petrochemicals domestically. In 2024, Sinopec planned to jointly initiate the establishment of the first energy and chemical industrial chain carbon footprint alliance with seven companies, including PetroChina, CNOOC and PipeChina, to collaborate on supply chain carbon reduction.
