OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, officially launched its first AI-powered web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, marking a new round of competition with Alphabet (GOOG.US)      's Google.

Following the news, Alphabet once slumped nearly 5% on Tuesday before its decline slowed to about 2%.

Atlas focuses on personalized internet experiences and can handle tasks for users, such as booking flight tickets and editing documents. Whenever a user opens a website, an 'Ask ChatGPT' sidebar appears on the right side of the page, allowing users to interact directly with the page content.

For example, upon opening a movie review website, users can ask ChatGPT to summarize key points, or automatically order ingredients online when searching for recipes.

Atlas will first launch globally on macOS, with plans to expand soon to Windows, iOS and Android.
