The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it plans to revoke the US operating license of HKT International, a subsidiary of PCCW (00008.HK)  -0.040 (-0.662%)    Short selling $2.82M; Ratio 10.921%   , on the grounds of national security concerns.

The FCC has asked HKT-SS (06823.HK)  +0.020 (+0.162%)    Short selling $12.08M; Ratio 16.110%   and its subsidiaries to explain why, given their ties with China Unicom Americas, the revocation process shouldn't be initiated.

If the FCC has finalized its decision to revoke HKT International's operating license, HKT International will be barred from providing international and domestic telecommunications services within the US.

In 2022, the FCC revoked the operating license of CHINA UNICOM (00762.HK)  +0.030 (+0.416%)    Short selling $12.59M; Ratio 18.319%   and has since taken similar actions against other Chinese telecom operators in the US.
