A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOFCOM) responded to the recent US announcement of tariff hike and other restrictive measures against China saying that China has taken note of the situation.

China has clarified its position regarding the US threat to impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods and other restrictive measures. The spokesperson reiterated that the export control measures related to rare earths and other items are legitimate actions by the central government to improve its export control system based on laws and regulations.

Before the implementation of the above measures, China had informed the US through bilateral export control dialogue mechanism. In contrast, the US has long generalized national security, abused export controls, and adopted discriminatory practices against China.

Especially since the China-US economic and trade talks in Madrid, the US has continuously introduced a series of restrictive measures against China, severely damaging China's interests and the atmosphere for bilateral economic and trade talks. China firmly opposes these actions.

Meanwhile, both sides have maintained communication under the framework of the China-US economic and trade consultation mechanism, and a work-level meeting was held yesterday (13th).

The US cannot simultaneously seek talks while threatening to introduce new restrictive measures, as this is not the correct way to interact with China.
