In response to US President Donald Trump's announcement that the US will levy an extra 100% tariff on Chinese goods starting November 1 as retaliation for China's recent rare earth export control measures, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China's position.

He stressed that the recent series of US restrictions and sanctions against China have severely eroded Chinese interests, therefore China vigorously opposes this. Instead of self-reflection, the US threatens with high tariffs, which is not the correct way to engage with China, he insisted.
