The box office for the 2025 National Day holiday in China dropped by 13% YoY to RMB1.835 billion, compared to the National Day holiday box office for 2021-2024 of RMB4.388 billion/ RMB1.497 billion/ RMB2.735 billion/ RMB2.105 billion respectively, according to data from the China Film Administration.

This year's National Day holiday box office decreased by RMB270 million YoY, ranking as the second lowest in the past five years.

Moreover, enthusiasm for movies in first-tier cities continued to decline. According to BEACON's data, the box office share of first-tier cities during the 2025 National Day holiday was only 13.4%, setting a new historical low. In contrast, the share of third- and fourth-tier cities continued to rise, accounting for nearly 44%.
