After opening down 44 points this morning (18th), the HSI staged a comeback in early trading, climbing by 149 points to a four-year high of 27,058. From that point onward, however, its momentum dissipated, eventually marking a loss of 47 points at midday. Following the retreat in the A-share market, it last dived by 401 points or about 1.4% to 26,506, with a turnover of HKD283.081 billion.

Among the 88 constituents in the HSI, only 9 were on an uptrend. POP MART (09992.HK)  +4.200 (+1.572%)    Short selling $1.26B; Ratio 24.588%   last traded at HKD265.8, up 4.07%, with a turnover of HKD4.164 billion, making it the best-performing blue chip.

Huawei's in-house 950PR chip is set to launch in 1Q26, fueling market expectations for China's continued chip localization. SMIC (00981.HK)  +0.250 (+0.360%)    Short selling $725.81M; Ratio 6.797%   once hit a historical high of HKD73.3. It was last at HKD70, up 3.4%, with a volume of 171 million shares, involving HKD12.183 billion. BIDU-SW (09888.HK)  -1.300 (-0.979%)    Short selling $2.53B; Ratio 47.951%   and CSPC PHARMA (01093.HK)  -0.200 (-1.972%)    Short selling $181.14M; Ratio 11.737%   rose about 1%.

GEELY AUTO (00175.HK)  +0.190 (+1.010%)    Short selling $158.57M; Ratio 14.820%   last printed at HKD18.77, down 4.96%, with a turnover of HKD1.808 billion, delivering the worst performance among the blue chips. XINYI SOLAR (00968.HK)  +0.020 (+0.593%)    Short selling $86.96M; Ratio 26.919%   last traded at HKD3.41, down 4.75%, with a turnover of HKD289 million. ALI HEALTH (00241.HK)  -0.020 (-0.300%)    Short selling $129.38M; Ratio 17.977%   and CHINA OVERSEAS (00688.HK)  -0.070 (-0.490%)    Short selling $25.61M; Ratio 7.602%   receded over 3%.

Sinking heavyweight techs dragged the board market toward the bottom. TENCENT (00700.HK)  +0.500 (+0.078%)    Short selling $1.19B; Ratio 8.925%   and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  -0.150 (-0.264%)    Short selling $1.47B; Ratio 14.865%   tumbled over 2% after midday. BABA-W (09988.HK)  +0.700 (+0.442%)    Short selling $3.60B; Ratio 16.232%   and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK)  -0.550 (-0.720%)    Short selling $844.32M; Ratio 22.267%   slipped 1.9%.

The WuXi series was also soft. WUXI BIO (02269.HK)  -1.120 (-2.879%)    Short selling $311.84M; Ratio 16.183%   and WUXI APPTEC (02359.HK)  -1.500 (-1.342%)    Short selling $80.19M; Ratio 9.787%   lost over 2%. Chinese consumer stock ZHONGSHENG HLDG (00881.HK)  +0.160 (+1.079%)    Short selling $27.32M; Ratio 21.272%   eroded 3%. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK)  -1.100 (-1.081%)    Short selling $209.85M; Ratio 12.951%   , ANTA SPORTS (02020.HK)  +2.500 (+2.651%)    Short selling $241.58M; Ratio 16.845%   , and LI NING (02331.HK)  0.000 (0.000%)    Short selling $65.45M; Ratio 23.461%   faded over 2%.

Heavyweight financial stocks were thrown into a downward. AIA (01299.HK)  -1.400 (-1.913%)    Short selling $418.00M; Ratio 12.861%   slumped 1.7%.
