US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that unless European countries impose high tariffs on China and India, the US will not impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods to prevent them from purchasing Russian oil, according to foreign reports.

He emphasized that European countries need to play a larger role in severing Russian oil revenue and ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

When asked whether the US would impose tariffs on Chinese goods after imposing a 25% tariff on Indian imports, Bessent expressed hope that Europe would now fulfill its responsibilities. Without European support, progress will not be smooth.

He also criticized some European countries for buying discounted Russian oil and refining it into petroleum products in India, saying these countries are funding conflicts in their own backyard.
