Hong Kong stocks opened sharply higher on September 1, 2025, propelled by Alibaba. The HSI jumped up 430 points, or 1.7%, to open at 25,508. The HSCEI added 136 points, or 1.5%, to 9,084. The HSTECH advanced 117 points, or 2.1%, to 5,792.

BABA-W (09988.HK)  -4.300 (-3.207%)    Short selling $3.29B; Ratio 16.998%   soared 15% to HK$133 after its 1FQ adjusted EBITA dropped 14%, but the company revealed plans to develop a new AI chip. HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK)  -2.620 (-5.424%)    Short selling $220.12M; Ratio 8.028%   opened 5% higher after announcing plans to acquire the remaining 97.5% stake in Shanghai Huali Microelectronics, with its A-shares resuming trading. SMIC (00981.HK)  -4.000 (-6.667%)    Short selling $470.88M; Ratio 4.406%   leaped 6.7% at the open, planning to acquire a 49% stake in Semiconductor Manufacturing North China (Beijing) Corporation, though its A-shares were suspended. BYD ELECTRONIC (00285.HK)  +0.080 (+0.195%)    Short selling $289.48M; Ratio 17.180%   gapped up 11.2% following a 14% YoY hike in interim net profit.

As to other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK)  -6.000 (-1.003%)    Short selling $1.01B; Ratio 9.450%   , XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  -1.250 (-2.285%)    Short selling $977.72M; Ratio 17.230%   , and KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK)  -2.100 (-2.917%)    Short selling $698.37M; Ratio 20.190%   added 1.3-1.6%. JD-SW (09618.HK)  -0.900 (-0.746%)    Short selling $344.08M; Ratio 25.475%   and BIDU-SW (09888.HK)  +2.000 (+2.128%)    Short selling $887.01M; Ratio 35.642%   shot up 2.3% and 4.9%, respectively. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  +0.900 (+0.896%)    Short selling $969.11M; Ratio 15.186%   dipped 1.2% at the open. UBTECH ROBOTICS (09880.HK)  -0.900 (-0.870%)    Short selling $147.83M; Ratio 4.296%   opened 3.5% higher after narrowing it interim loss to RMB414 million and announcing a US$1 billion strategic partnership with Infini Capital.

In the auto sector, BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)  -3.500 (-3.241%)    Short selling $921.02M; Ratio 13.634%   opened 8% lower despite a 14% rise in interim net profit, weighed down by a GM decline. GEELY AUTO (00175.HK)  -0.420 (-2.242%)    Short selling $276.41M; Ratio 17.180%   lifted 1.5%, while XPENG-W (09868.HK)  -1.900 (-2.407%)    Short selling $378.10M; Ratio 22.575%   fell 1.4%.
