Investors kept their eyes wide open on the upcoming quarterly earnings of chip leader Nvidia (NVDA.US)      , while digesting the turmoil surrounding 's dismissal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. US stocks advanced in late trading on Tuesday.

The DJIA ultimately finished up 135 points or 0.3% at 45,418. The S&P 500 added 26 points or 0.4% to 6,465. The Nasdaq climbed 94 points or 0.4% to close at 21,544.
