Hong Kong’s stock market slumped in the morning session after China’s July data of consumption, added value of industries, and urban fixed asset investment missed expectations.

The HSI opened 197 points lower, with losses widening to a peak decline of 351 points to 25,167, and closed the morning session down 304 points or 1.2% at 25,215. The HSCEI dipped 115 points or 1.3% to 9,013. The HSTECH dropped 60 points or 1.1% to 5,515. Market turnover reached HKD154.369 billion.

JD-SW (09618.HK)  +3.200 (+2.649%)    Short selling $202.28M; Ratio 7.569%   fell off 3.8% after its 2Q25 new business losses exceeded market expectations. Brokers cited JD’s management indicating that 3Q25 new business investment will be similar to 2Q25. BABA-W (09988.HK)  +0.500 (+0.423%)    Short selling $1.13B; Ratio 12.487%   and MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  -0.200 (-0.164%)    Short selling $1.13B; Ratio 23.445%   slid 2.6% and 3.8%, respectively. The HKMA and SFC issued a statement emphasizing high thresholds for stablecoin issuer license applications, calling for public caution.
