Nvidia (NVDA.US)      has placed an order for 300,000 H20 chips with TSMC (TSM.US)      to cater the resilient demand from China, Reuters, citing people with the knowledge of the matter, reported.

The U.S. government this month allowed Nvidia to resume sales of H20 chips to China. According to U.S. research firm SemiAnalysis, Nvidia sold approximately 1 million H20 chips last year, and the current inventory of H20 chips is around 600,000-700,000 units.

Nvidia needs to obtain an export license from the U.S. government to ship H20 chips, but the U.S. Department of Commerce purportedly has not yet approved the relevant license, whereas Nvidia has declined to comment on the progress of new orders or license applications.
