The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) announced that the Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. In the past few hours, squally showers associated with the tropical depression affected the coast of Guangdong. Locally, around 20 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over parts of the territory, with occasionally strong winds offshore and on high ground.

The tropical depression is expected to make landfall over Leizhou Peninsula around noon, then move into inland areas of Guangxi and depart gradually from the territory. Its threat to Hong Kong will decrease gradually in the afternoon, the Observatory will consider cancelling all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m..

However, the rainbands associated with the tropical depression will still bring squalls to the territory today. There will also be swells. Members of the public should stay alert, stay away from the shoreline and not engage in water sports.
