The Middle East situation worsened as the US military made a air raid to Iranian nuclear facilities over last weekend, leading to a rise in oil prices and a softening US stock futures.

The HSI opened 194 points lower this morning (23rd), and once dropped 257 points to a low of 23,272 in the early session before its decline narrowed. The index closed down 31 points at midday, but jumped up as much as 157 points to a high of 23,687 after midday. It last printed at 23,641, up 110 points or nearly 0.5%, with a turnover of $152.288 billion.

Three major 'popular stocks' prospered, with LAOPU GOLD (06181.HK)  +40.000 (+4.020%)    Short selling $109.11M; Ratio 12.322%   once rallying by 9.4% to a high of $899. The stock last escalated 7.79% to $886, with a turnover of $859 million. LAOPU GOLD will mark its 12-month listing anniversary this Friday (27th), after which 12 major shareholders will have about 143 million shares unlocked, accounting for over 80% of its total share capital.

Moreover, MIXUE GROUP (02097.HK)  +29.500 (+5.739%)   last printed at $532.5, leaping 3.6%, with a turnover of $231 million. POP MART (09992.HK)  +6.000 (+2.372%)    Short selling $136.25M; Ratio 7.685%   climbed 2.67% to last at $246, with a turnover of $5.438 billion.

It is rumored that the US plans to cancel the exemption for TSMC (TSM.US)      and others using US technology in China, with SMIC (00981.HK)  +0.350 (+0.796%)    Short selling $174.77M; Ratio 6.705%   and HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK)  -0.500 (-1.403%)    Short selling $114.53M; Ratio 15.147%   each leaping over 4%.
