China is already the world's second-largest capital market, a result of years of economic cultivation by HKEX (00388.HK)  +2.800 (+0.718%)    Short selling $365.33M; Ratio 14.308%   and several mainland Chinese exchanges, HKEX CEO Bonnie Chan commented.

In the future, it is essential to develop China's capital market into a multi-tiered market system, allowing HKEX and mainland exchanges to achieve complementary advantages and differentiated development.

She assumed that the current level of foreign participation in Chinese assets remains relatively low, and both Hong Kong and mainland exchanges can jointly leverage connectivity and the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (QFII) system to attract foreign capital.

Qiu Yong, Chairman of the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), separately mentioned that China's doors have been opening wider since its reform and opening-up, while there is greater room for connectivity cooperation between the SSE and overseas exchanges like Hong Kong.
