The US is engaged in tariff negotiations with Vietnam, requesting the latter to reduce the use of Chinese technology in equipment exported to the US, foreign media reported, citing sources.

The Vietnamese government is meeting with local businesses, urging the industry to increase the use of locally manufactured components. Businesses are willing to cooperate but indicated that time and technology are needed to achieve this.

This is part of a supply chain restructuring, which could also reduce US reliance on Chinese components. The ultimate goal is to accelerate the US's circumvention of Chinese components and expand Vietnam's industrial capacity.

Vietnam is facing the threat of a 46% tariff from the US, and the country is a major manufacturing base for technology companies like Apple (AAPL.US)      and Samsung. Meta (META.US)      and Google (GOOGL.US)      also have contractors in Vietnam responsible for producing virtual reality headsets and smartphones.
