Hong Kong stocks have shown greater resilience YTD, and risk-reward profiles and investability have greatly improved thanks to a revaluation driven by new quality productive forces and high-quality development, Zhao Wenli, managing director, head of research and chief strategist of CCB International Securities Research Department, opined. 2H25 will be a crucial stage that lays the foundation for a new bull market in Hong Kong stocks.

In Zhao's estimates, as Hong Kong stocks will generally trend upward with some volatility in 2H, the HSI is well-positioned to bust above the key 25,000 threshold. He predicted the HSI to fluctuate within a range of 22,000-26,000, the HSCEI within a range of 7,800-9,800, and the HSTECH within a range of 5,000-6,600.

Regarding the conflicts between China and the US, Zhao expected that the two may first reach a partial agreement. Since the US aims to maintain a certain level of pressure as a bargaining chip rather than returning to a state of maximum pressure, tariffs are anticipated to range between 10% and 60%.

In terms of stock selection for 2H25, Zhao shared his top 10 focus stocks, namely TENCENT (00700.HK)  0.000 (0.000%)    Short selling $686.49M; Ratio 10.172%   , NTES-S (09999.HK)  -2.200 (-1.093%)    Short selling $787.21M; Ratio 14.577%   , XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  -1.150 (-2.120%)    Short selling $721.80M; Ratio 10.812%   , POP MART (09992.HK)  +1.800 (+0.741%)    Short selling $135.60M; Ratio 5.745%   , LEAPMOTOR (09863.HK)  -1.500 (-2.664%)    Short selling $46.08M; Ratio 16.633%   , CM BANK (03968.HK)  -0.250 (-0.495%)    Short selling $144.35M; Ratio 17.712%   , SD GOLD (01787.HK)  +0.200 (+0.805%)    Short selling $30.63M; Ratio 9.906%   , COMEC (00317.HK)  -0.320 (-2.454%)    Short selling $706.56K; Ratio 0.647%   , INNOVENT BIO (01801.HK)  +0.850 (+1.176%)    Short selling $121.31M; Ratio 6.982%   , and JD HEALTH (06618.HK)  +0.200 (+0.508%)    Short selling $184.64M; Ratio 18.532%   .
