In response to the US tariff hike on imported steel and aluminum and their derivatives from 25% to 50%, He Yongqian, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOFCOM), urged the US to stop generalizing and abusing the concept of national security, believing that the US' further tariff hike on steel and aluminum and their derivatives not only harms others and itself, but also does not help to safeguard industrial security.

The tariff increase will also seriously disrupt the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain, while the US approach has been opposed by a number of countries.
