The HSI opened 233 points or 0.99% lower at 23,339. The HSCEI dipped 97 points or 1.14% to 8,462. The HSTECH dropped 66 points or 1.26% to 5,234.

Tech stocks were lackluster, with NTES-S (09999.HK)  -9.500 (-4.745%)    Short selling $538.63M; Ratio 9.472%   opening 3.9% lower, making it the worst-performing blue-chip stock. TENCENT (00700.HK)  -12.300 (-2.409%)    Short selling $915.20M; Ratio 6.481%   has integrated multiple products with the latest version of DeepSeek R1. Its stock price inched down 0.9%. BABA-W (09988.HK)  -4.200 (-3.556%)    Short selling $2.60B; Ratio 11.170%   eroded 2.5% despite a surge of over 2.8 times in Tmall's first phase sales of home appliances and mobile digital products during the 618 event compared to last year's Double 11 event. BIDU-SW (09888.HK)  -3.150 (-3.715%)    Short selling $432.33M; Ratio 23.837%   waned 2.2%. Both Baidu AI Cloud's Qianfan model and WenXiaoyan have fully integrated with the latest DeepSeek R1 model.

In addition, LENOVO GROUP (00992.HK)  -0.410 (-4.339%)    Short selling $227.31M; Ratio 20.361%   sank 3.1%. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  -0.750 (-1.451%)    Short selling $1.62B; Ratio 15.488%   , MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  -2.100 (-1.499%)    Short selling $1.63B; Ratio 17.427%   , BILIBILI-W (09626.HK)  -6.000 (-3.919%)    Short selling $160.73M; Ratio 22.896%   , and JD-SW (09618.HK)  -2.900 (-2.200%)    Short selling $405.01M; Ratio 13.974%   slipped 1.4-2.3%.

Carmakers delivered a mixed performance. BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)  -13.200 (-3.251%)    Short selling $973.82M; Ratio 10.079%   opened declining 2.4% amid reports saying that over 20 4S stores of its dealer in Shandong have ceased operations. NIO-SW (09866.HK)  -1.300 (-4.422%)    Short selling $182.82M; Ratio 46.043%   slid 2%. LI AUTO-W (02015.HK)  +4.100 (+3.789%)    Short selling $636.78M; Ratio 16.598%   gained 4.3%, even though it logged a 20.3% YoY drop in its 1Q non-GAAP net profit. The company's Li i8 and i6 are also scheduled for release in July and September, respectively.

Among pharma stocks, CSPC PHARMA (01093.HK)  +0.480 (+6.299%)    Short selling $601.21M; Ratio 12.146%   was the best performer among blue-chip stocks with a spike of 7.6% at open. It is currently in discussions regarding three potential transactions with potential upfront payments totaling around USD5 billion. SINO BIOPHARM (01177.HK)  +0.030 (+0.679%)    Short selling $146.00M; Ratio 19.759%   also added 1.4%.
