U.S. markets saw the Nasdaq and S&P 500 ascend, fueled by gains in Nvidia and Tesla, while the DJIA lost 89 points or 0.2%. In Hong Kong, the HSI opened 3 points higher at 23,644; the HSCEI dipped 13 points or 0.2% to 8,579; and the HSTECH sank 7 points or 0.1% to 5,374.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation held a symposium with platform operators, encouraging tailored measures to support individual businesses. BABA-W (09988.HK)  -0.900 (-0.690%)    Short selling $514.44M; Ratio 10.969%   opened 0.8% higher at HKD131.4. TENCENT (00700.HK)  -4.500 (-0.864%)    Short selling $1.06B; Ratio 10.995%   , reporting a 22% YoY rise in 1Q25 non-IFRS net profit in line with expectations, opened 2% up at HKD531.5.

Other techs displayed mixed performance: MEITUAN-W (03690.HK)  -3.100 (-2.224%)    Short selling $569.36M; Ratio 19.875%   , KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK)  -1.100 (-2.074%)    Short selling $95.87M; Ratio 17.653%   , and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK)  -4.600 (-3.221%)    Short selling $69.15M; Ratio 32.875%   opened 0.4%-1% lower. XIAOMI-W (01810.HK)  +0.150 (+0.298%)    Short selling $479.83M; Ratio 9.677%   was flat at HKD50.4. JD-SW (09618.HK)  -5.500 (-3.884%)    Short selling $172.73M; Ratio 12.549%   slid 2.4%, and NTES-S (09999.HK)  +1.800 (+1.084%)    Short selling $65.67M; Ratio 13.561%   leaped 2.2%. TME-SW (01698.HK)  +5.050 (+8.211%)    Short selling $10.43M; Ratio 18.703%   surged 6.2%. In chips, SMIC (00981.HK)  -0.750 (-1.756%)    Short selling $51.64M; Ratio 5.987%   gained 0.6%. Among automakers, BYD COMPANY (01211.HK)  +7.200 (+1.737%)    Short selling $1.01B; Ratio 30.065%   was flat at HKD414.4, while LI AUTO-W (02015.HK)  -0.600 (-0.532%)    Short selling $145.19M; Ratio 23.031%   and XPENG-W (09868.HK)  -0.700 (-0.856%)    Short selling $90.14M; Ratio 15.188%   sagged 1.8% and 1%, respectively.

As to financials, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK)  -0.650 (-0.716%)    Short selling $59.14M; Ratio 10.896%   opened 1.4% lower at HKD89.5. HKEX (00388.HK)  -1.200 (-0.315%)    Short selling $236.62M; Ratio 22.792%   was flat at HKD381. AIA (01299.HK)  +0.550 (+0.842%)    Short selling $792.85M; Ratio 39.813%   spiked 4% to HKD67.9.
