Nissan Motor plans to escalate its layoffs to nearly 20,000 employees, equivalent to approximately 15% of its total workforce, according to Japan’s NHK, citing sources.

Plagued by weak sales in China and the U.S., the company’s net profit for the first half of FY2024 (ending September 30, 2024) plunged 94% YoY.

Nissan is set to release its full-year FY2024 results (ending March 31, 2025) tomorrow, May 13. The company had previously warned of a record net loss of up to JPY750 billion (approximately USD5.1 billion) for the fiscal year.
