Senior U.S. and Chinese officials held high-level trade talks over the past weekend, foreign media reported.

Following the talks, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the meeting with China was very productive, with many issues discussed and many consensus reached. He believed that the two countries conducted negotiations in a friendly and constructive manner.

For the benefit of both the U.S. and China, the U.S. hopes to see China open its market to American businesses, describing the negotiations as having made tremendous progress.

Prior to the talks, Trump had indicated that the U.S. would not lower tariffs unless China made concessions. However, he later suggested that reducing tariffs on Chinese goods to 80% seemed possible.
