U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he envisioned progress in U.S.-China trade talks in the coming weeks, emphasizing that President Donald Trump's 145% tariff on China cannot be sustained in the long term because it is the equivalent of an embargo.

However, Bessent did not say whether he was in active trade talks with China, saying only that the U.S. is in a favorable position in the trade conflict because the U.S. is a deficit country and China is a surplus country, so China has more to lose.
