Bill Winters, CEO of STANCHART (02888.HK)  +0.800 (+0.709%)    Short selling $17.23M; Ratio 19.301%   , said in a press conference that the impact of US tariffs on corporate and investment banking (CIB) revenue was limited. Revenue from US-related businesses amounted to about US$900 million, or about 7% of CIB's total revenue for the last financial year.

Any long-term comprehensive tariff hike would have an impact on the economic environment, and hence STANCHART would be affected, Winters added.

However, STANCHART's credit quality is improving steadily, while its balance sheet remains strong, which Winters believed will support the bank in the downside scenario of slower economic growth. Customer activity has also remained very strong in 1Q25-to-date.
