The Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong (IRD) issued about 2.66 million tax returns today (2nd). The provisional figure for the overall tax revenue for 2024-2025 amounted to $374.5 billion, up 10% YoY, with salaries tax revenue/ profits tax revenue/ stamp duty rising by 11%/ 4%/ 30% to $88.9 billion/ $177.7 billion/ $63.9 billion.

The increase in assessable income of taxpayers, the rise in the number of taxpayers and the decrease in the number of people applying for holding over of provisional tax were the main reasons for the hike in salaries tax revenue, Benjamin Chan, the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, said.
